Buckeye Blossoms Quilt Guild September 10, 2014 President Pat called the regular meeting of the Buckeye Blossoms Quilt Guild to order at MidPoint Library. There were 21 members and 1 guest present. In 1982, President Ronald Reagan declared September to be National Sewing Month to acknowledge the value of domestic sewing in the United States. The Secretary’s minutes were read. Linda made a motion to accept the minutes as read, seconded by Donna M. Patty Conrad presented the Treasurer’s report. Jacque H. made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report as presented, seconded by Ginny. Peggy P. gave an update on our quilting retreat on March 19, 20 and 21, 2015. The retreat center has increased their fees. The cost for our retreat next year will be $140 for members and $160 for non-members. Peggy is not sure if this includes the additional $5 for early arrival on Friday. More information will be given at our next meeting. If anyone is interested in teaching a class for our retreat, please contact a committee member. They would like to have samples prepared to show at the November meeting. Kathy H. has finished quilting the Quilt of Valor and Ginny is in the process of completing the binding. Discussion followed about the recipient of the Quilt of Valor and the possibility of him speaking about his service dog project. Ginny will contact the recipient and report a back at the next meeting. Ginny will contact the Journal Newsabout media coverage. Peggy P. suggested contacting TV Middletown. Patty C. said that her brother works at WHIO and she would contact him about the possibility of some media coverage. There was discussion about providing refreshments at the November meeting. Ginnymade a motion to appropriate $100 for refreshments for the Quilt of Valor presentation at our November meeting. Seconded by Jacque H. Motion passed. Patty C.suggested that everyone wear red, white and blue for this meeting. Bev received a call from the nursing home where Peggy E. is living. The activities director asked if our guild members would be willing to visit Peggy on a monthly basis to work on projects with her. There is a private room available to work in. Some members showed some interest. It was decided to have a sign-up sheet at the next meeting for those who would be willing to visit and work with her. We will only undertake this project if there are enough volunteers who will commit to one or two months a year. Our December meeting on December 10 will be our Christmas Celebration. Our meeting will begin at 6 PM. There was discussion on making this a covered dish event with the guild providing a ham, table service and decorations for the party. Gina made a motion to appropriate a limit of $300 for the purchase of a ham, table service and decorations for the Guild Christmas Celebration. Seconded by Mary S. Motion passed. Members are to bring a covered dish and a drink for the party. There is no Saturday available for a Saturday Sew in December. Pat reserved the Community Room for Wednesday, December 17 for our sewing day. Pat asked the members if they would like to keep the reservation of the room for December 17 or release the room and just not have a “Saturday” sew in December. Members decided to just cancel and end the year with our December meeting. Florence made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Gina. Meeting adjourned.
