Buckeye Blossoms Quilt Guild
August 13, 2014
President Pat called the regular meeting of the Buckeye Blossoms Quilt Guild to order at MidPoint Library. There were 25 members and 1 guests present.
The Secretary’s minutes were read. Donna made a motion to accept the minutes as read, seconded by Gina.
Pat presented the Treasurer’s report. Jacque made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report as presented, seconded by Peggy.
Ginny showed off the Quilt of Valor that will be presented to a veteran at the November meeting. She contacted the Butler County Veterans for the name of a veteran. They gave her the name of a veteran, but when she contacted him, he suggested that we give the quilt to a veteran who started a program working with service dogs. She said that he would like media coverage on the presentation of the quilt. Ginny will try to get that arranged. Ginny also said that she has posted easy patterns that can be used for additional Quilts of Valor on Wiki.
Wiki Update: Wiki is now open to the public. No password is necessary. A new video link has been added. A sincere thank you applause was given to Linda and Cindy for their hard work in maintaining our site.
Pat asked if our guild would be interested in participating in the Middletown Art Festival on September 13 in downtown Middletown. Peggy and Donna found out more information. If we participate, we would have to rent a 10’ x 10’ tent with a 6’ table and 2 chairs for $100 or we could set up our own tent for $50. When this was originally discussed, Donna was unaware that there was a charge for a space. This event is the same date as our Saturday sew. Pat asked for comments. Peggy said that she has volunteered to work at the information booth for the event and she could pass out flyers about our guild. She is going to check with Duane about maybe showing some quilts. Comments were not favorable for participating. There is more information available about the event at middletownartsfestival.com if anyone in interested in attending the event.
Discussion showed interest in giving out a card to promote our guild at the festival. Pat asked for a volunteer to design the card. Peggy volunteered. The cost will be under $50.
Sharon is planning the September program. She is presenting a demo on binding. Pat asked for input on other demonstrations that our members might want to be presented. Mary and Ginny will also present demos.
